The Illness: Herbert Gentry

Like many of his contemporaries, Herbert Gentry spent time abroad to escape the segregation that came with being Black in America. Gentry lived and worked in Stockholm, Paris, Copenhagen and his native New York. Primary colors and crude shapes dominate Gentry’s eye-popping work.
