Mediocrity is NOT Okay

What the hell is going on with the Boston Celtics?? After losing to the Lakers, they have not been able to get it together. You can’t win a championship like this. You just can’t. They got beat on a three from Von Wafer…Von f*ckin’ Wafer.

In other news, DUKE men’s basketball is now ranked number two. And after Boston College handled the Tar Heels like a bunch of lightweights, UNC is now ranked number three. All is right in the world because we all know DUKE>UNC.

At least the Blue Devils know that mediocrity is unacceptable.

The Day in Sports…

1. The Detroit Lions fell to the New Orleans Saints 42-7…bringing their win total all the way to…zero. They are 0-15. Have not won a single game all season. I wouldn’t even show up for the final game. There’s no saving face. Maybe they should be disbanded. Their performance this season was beyond terrible.

2. On the flip side, the Boston Celtics smacked the New York Knicks for their 18th consecutive win. Who’s f*cking with them? Seriously. I looked at the schedule, the streak has the potential to continue into January. Of course they play the LA Lakers on Christmas Day but the way the Lakers play defense coupled with the fact that Kobe and ‘nem have trouble closing games…I’m not afraid.

3. The New England Patriots iced the Arizona Cardinals…literally. 47-7. I mean, I’ve heard of home field advantage and all but I think that it should be distinct from “road field DISadvantage”. The poor Cardinals didn’t know up from down in the game and it was pretty sad to watch. I mean, Kurt Warner is a Pro Bowl quarterback and he only threw for 30 yards or something like that.

It made me wonder if perhaps that should be taken into account when scheduling the games. For instance, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had never even SEEN snow. It’s completely unfair that he had to go and play in snow so late in the season. Can you really expect a team from Arizona to perform to the best of their abilities when playing in the snow? What happened to the level playing field?

We won’t even discuss the Dallas Cowboys’ weak performance last night…I’m still trying to recover.

Like, seriously. Dare I say it??? Most improved? All-Star Game?

It’s still early.

He’s so exciting to watch but he really should eat something.

Box Office: Quantum of Solace

Went to dinner and a movie with my girls today. We saw Quantum of Solace. This was my first time actually watching a James Bond movie. I didn’t think that Daniel Craig was James Bond type sexy but he did a really good job. Apparently the first one was better. I wouldn’t know because I have no standard of comparison. With any movie franchise that is as big as this I think that it is really easy to fail to give adequate background info. And if I had to pick a flaw, that would be it. Without my friend whispering in my ear, I would not have understood the relationships that carried over from the first movie.

All in all it was enjoyable. Here’s the trailer.

In other news, the Lakers finally lost a game. Kanye West was arrested again for an incident with a paparazzo. And the Celtics lost. There was a lot going on today.

NBA Standings: Week 2

We’re about two weeks into the NBA season. Things seem about right. The Lakers are atop the Western Conference standings, LeBron James leads the league in scoring, Chris Paul leads the league in assists per game and Dwight Howard is grabbing every available rebound.

The early surprise thus far: the Atlanta Hawks. They are undefeated! Of course they haven’t had very many tests thus far but they did beat the New Orleans Hornets and Toronto Raptors (another surprise…I thought they’d be better than they are currently).

However, tonight the Hawks will travel to Boston to face the reigning Champs. It will be their first loss of the season which will drop them into a tie for first place with the Celtics. I know. I know. It’s early in the season. But I like to watch closely because you can tell how a team will perform late in the season if you keep close watch on them early. And I need the Celtics to perform.

Tonight at 7:30p eastern, the Hawks and the Celtics.

It is OFFICIAL!!!!

FINALLY!!!! After all of those years of being a Minnesota fan, I get some reprieve. Congratulations Kevin Garnett, you deserve it! No longer “one of the greatest to play and not win a championship”, now just one of the greatest.

Congratulations Ray Allen! You deserve it! Lamar Odom tried to take you out.

Congratulations Paul Pierce! You.deserve.it! Paul Pierce is the 50 Cent of the NBA. Except way more articulate. Stabbed eleven times?! He is a survivor. For real.

Why did the Lakers even show up tonight? Wasting my damn time. Think of all the gas they wasted flying their asses to Boston. Don’t they know we’re in a crisis? If you aren’t going to show up, don’t show up.

Quote of the night (as best as I remember): “You know what it’s like when you get bullied in school…and then one day you walk in school and lay his ass out. I knocked the bully’s ass out.” -Kevin Garnett when asked what it feels like to finally get this off of his chest.
