Song of the Moment: MC Lyte “Cha Cha Cha”

This will forever and always be one of my favorite songs. It’s actually not even my favorite MC Lyte song. That should let you know how much I love MC Lyte.

Kick this one here for me and my DJ.

And it’s shocking I’m the one you’re mocking
Oh yes, I’ve been watching you watching me
And like the fat on your back it’s plain to see
That you’re a wannabe, but you can’t be what you’re not
So you better start living with what you got

SOTM: “Go Hard” Some DJ, Kanye West and T-Pain

This song must be crack because I’m addicted.

I have my gripes with DJ Khaled and his gratuitous use of the word “nigga”. But Kanye goes hard.

It’d be easy to make jokes about this song but I think it’s likeable enough to be getting along with.

Song of the Moment: Bob Marley “Satisfy my Soul”

“Satisfy my Soul”. Kaya. 1978.

Oh, I said, baby, never let me be a loner,
And then you hold me tight,
you make me feel all right.
Yes, when you hold me tight,
you made me feel all right.

Song of the Moment: Lauryn Hill “Every Ghetto, Every City”

One of my favorite songs from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I used it as the center piece of a paper I wrote in like 10th grade. My teacher called it brilliant.

“Don’t forget what you’ve got.”

Song of the Moment: Jimi Hendrix “Machine Gun”

R.I.P.

A sick live performance from one of the greats. “Machine Gun” is from the live album Band of Gypsys. I’m not sure if there was ever a studio version recorded. I’d be interested to know. I would guess that there isn’t a studio recording because there was a huge controversy surrounding the album, which Jimi Hendrix admitted was subpar. No matter the controversy, I really love the guitar in this song.

Song of the Moment: Jay-Z ft. Chris Martin “Beach Chair”

In anticipation of Viva La Hova, I wanted to revisit perhaps my favorite song from Jay-Z’s Kingdom Come. Featuring Chris Martin of Coldplay.

Son said “Hov how you get so fly?”
I said “From not bein’ afraid to fall out the sky”
-Jay-Z
